This growing family welcomed us to revitalize their heritage house in multiple stages. After improving the basement suite, we overhauled the kitchen and bathrooms and revamped the main living space. The family’s kitchen hub was simplified with minimally adorned millwork topped with hand-fired clay backsplash tiles and an expansive rear window that fills the room with light and views of the historic neighbourhood. In the final phase, a poorly-built multi-level deck was stripped away from the back of the house and rebuilt, opening the south facade onto an active yard now filled with kids.

  • Reclaimed fir floating shelves, exposed brick chimney and heated slate floors in the kitchen

  • Glass deck railings and vertical fir screens, with modern steel accents

  • Vegetable garden beds, and kid-friendly touches like a crawlspace connecting adjoining closets and pull-out stools under the bathroom vanities
